New Arrivals at Camp Liberty: Iraqi Armored Vehicles

Stop Fundamentalism – Just when everyone thought things are settling down with the Camp Ashraf crisis as the residents, 1600 of them, made the move to go to Camp Liberty, an Armored military unit makes its way into Camp Liberty which is supposed to be an unarmed refugee ‘temporary transit camp’ under United Nations supervision.

A statement released by the Secretariat of the National Council of Resistance of Iran said today that a number of anti-riot armored vehicles made their way into Camp Liberty this morning at 6:30 Baghdad time, armed with heavy machineguns.  The unit was stationed at four corners of the Camp in the police stations, says the NCRI statement.

Just about this time last year, on April 3, 2011, armored vehicles entered Camp Ashraf taking positions.  5 days later, on April 8 the massacre began leaving 36 residents dead and hundreds wounded.

The new armored unit deployment takes place just before a planned trip to Tehran by Iraq’s Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki on Sunday.
