US Troops will Leave Iraq by Year-End

Stop Fundamentalism – AP reported Saturday that all US troops will leave Iraq before the end of 2011 except 160 active-duty soldiers attached to the US Embassy in Baghdad.

There had been many discussions that the US may leave about 30,000 to 40,000 troops in Iraq after the end of the year.  The troops mostly would participate in training Iraqi military units and security forces.

No reason for the sudden change in plans has been given by the American officials yet, but Iraq’s refusal to provide legal immunity to American personnel may have played a major role, AP says.

Ultra High Definition TV is not so far away

SF News – Ultra high-definition television (UHDTV) was demonstrated earlier this month by a Japanese public service broadcaster NHK at the ITU.  The technology has taken a major step forward to becoming reality in light of agreement on specification by technology’s leading experts, said ITU in a press release yesterday.

Stop Fundamentalism – The United States has charged two Iranian men to be involved in a plot by Iranian government top officials to engage in an act of terrorism and assassinate the Saudi Arabian Ambassador to Washington, Adel Al-Jubeir.  The assassination was to take place in the United States.

US Attorney General Eric Holder told reporters that, “Conspiracy was conceived, sponsored and directed from Iran and constitutes a flagrant violation of US and international law.”

The Ambassador is also known to be very close to Saudi king Abdullah.  The US Vows to hold Iran accountable.

Iran was quick to deny the allegations and called the charges, “A new round of psychological warfare against Iran,” said the Iranian state-run Mehr news agency on its website.

Iran Wins Bahrain 6-0 Secures Top Spot in Group E Asian Qualifiers for Brazil 2014 World Cup Games

SF News – Iran’s national Football team in its third match of Group E of the Asian Qualifier games for the Brazil 2014 FIFA World Cup games beats Bahrain 6-0 today to regain top spot in Group E Qualifier chart.  The country had lost the spot to Qatar earlier last week.  The game was played in Tehran Azadi Stadium at the presence of 83 thousand football fans, report the Iranian news agencies.

In the same Group earlier the Iranian team has tied a game with Qatar and also had a victory over Indonesia’s national team. 

Iran’s Coach Carlos Queiroz , former Portugal national team coach who is now heading the Iranian national team, told reporters that the victory showed Iran has powerful football capabilities.

FIFA Appoints Security Expert for Iran-Bahrain Brazil 2014 Wrold Cup Qualifier

Stop Fundamentalism – While the Iranian media still brag about their Football (Soccer) team’s 7-0 win Wednesday against Palestine in Tehran’s Azadi Stadium in preparation of the upcoming match on October 11 against Bahrain, in Group E qualifier for Brazil 2014 FIFA World Cup Football games, FIFA has appointed a security expert to observe the “high risk” game next week.  The game will be played amid rising tensions between the two countries.

In an earlier game this year between the Iranian Piroozi team and Saudi’s Al-lttihad, Iranians fans in the stadium chanted slogans against the Saudi’s and clashed with the police.  The Iranians blame the Saudi’s for a crackdown on Bahraini protesters in what is come be known as Arab Spring.

Allawi Resigns as President of the National Council for Strategic Policy in Iraq

Stop Fundamentalism – The head of the Iraqia Bloc, Iyad Allawi, said Thursday that he is resigning the post of Presidency of the National Council for the Strategic Policy of Iraq, a position which was created to help an election dispute resolve but never realized. 

“We give up again for the presidency of the National Council for strategic policy in response to the demand of the People and the religious authorities,” said Allawi to reporters during a press conference in Baghdad today.

UN Updates Syrian Protests Death Toll to 2900

Stop Fundamentalism – A day after a United Nations Security Council draft resolution, strongly worded to condemn Syrian government’s violence against its own people, is vetoed by Russian and China, the United Nations’ human rights office raises the official death toll in Syrian protests to 2900 today.  The outbreak of protests and demonstrations happened back in March and many more people have been arrested and tortured since then.

“The total number has passed 2900 according to the list of individual names we have been compiling,” said Rupert Colville from the Office of High Commissioner for Human Rights to the UN News reporter.  He added that the previews tally stood at 2700 according to UN official records.

Iran Wins Palestine, Eyes Bahrain Match in World Cup Qualifier

SF News – Iranian media brag about thier Football (Soccer) team’s 7-0 win yesterday against Palestine in Tehran’s Azadi Stadium in preparation of the upcoming match on October 11 against Bahrain, in Group E qualifier for Brazil 2014 FIFA World Cup Football games.

Iranian Kurdish Political Prisoner Hanged on Charges of Moharebe

Stop Fundamentalism – HRA news agency reported today that a Kurdish prisoner in Iran has been hanged on the charges of Moharebe (waging war on God).

The prisoner, Aziz Khackzad, 29, was born in Salmas, Iran.  He was arrested three years ago and was accused by the Iranian authorities of collaborating with dissident groups.

China and Russia Veto Security Council Draft Resolution on Syrian Protesters Crackdown

Stop Fundamentalism – A strong condemnation on the Crackdown on Syrian pro-democracy protesters by the government of Bashar Al-Assad in the United Nations Security Council has been voted down by Russia and China today, reports the UN New Center.

Over 2700 people have been killed since the break out of popular protests in Syria in March and many have been detained and tortured in jails by the government authorities in that country in an attempt to clampdown on the protests.

Recent fallouts of the Syrian army have been forming armed groups to resist against military forces of Bashar Assad as a development that could raise the protests into a nationwide armed conflict for freedom.
