In December, Vida Movahed stood on top of a sidewalk utility box on Revolution Street in Iran to wave her headscarf on a stick in front of her in protest at Iran’s mandatory hijab laws.
An image of her posted on Instagram symbolised to the world how Iran’s growing feminist movement was helping to encourage these protests and the Iranian uprising.
But Movahed had already been arrested for her protest by the time most people saw the post.

The overall situation in Iran is deteriorating significantly, with more protests springing up over diverse issues every day, and, as always, it is the marginalised groups that suffer the most.
Most recently, we have seen intense protests over water shortages in southern Iran and the Regime responding with yet more repression. But the Regime’s suppression is not just centred on one group, instead it is spread across the country.

During the uprising of 2009, the Iranian people asked that the government count their votes. There were no chants for regime change, just the demand for fair and free elections. But today, the people’s protests have taken on a new and distinct character.

Tens of thousands of Iranians gathered to demonstrate for the peaceful transition to a free and democratic Iran, freed from the Iranian regime, outside of Paris, on June 30th.
Enthusiastic supporters are optimistic that a transition is achievable, now, while Iran is rocked with mass protests that have spread across the country, which are viewed as the most serious threat in the Islamic state’s history.

Earlier this week in Belgium, an Iranian diplomat and members of what authorities described as an “Iranian sleeper cell” were arrested as they allegedly planned to bomb the annual conference of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) that took place last Saturday, June 30th, outside of Paris. Several European intelligence agencies were involved in the arrests, which were announced by Belgium’s Minister of the Interior, Jan Jambon.

Saudi state-owned news channel Al-Ekhbariya reported on Friday that Ahmed Obeid bin Daghr, Yemen’s Prime Minister, said his government is moving towards regaining control of the state and extending its influence over all regions.
The prime minster said that “the determination of the political leadership – supported the Saudi-led Arab coalition – to move forward in a steady and steadfast way towards restoring the state and extending state control over all provinces,” during his meeting with the Governor of Hajjah, Abdulkarim Al-Sinayy.

The supporters of the Iranian opposition movement gathered in Paris expressed their determination by chanting together “we will fight. We will die. We will take back Iran”. With the opposition movement gathering momentum each day, and international governments turning against their policies of appeasement towards the mullahs, there is no doubt that the supporters are right. They will take back Iran.

The 2018 Free Iran Rally began in earnest in Paris on Saturday, June 30th, 2018. Alex Taylor, Annette Burgdorf, Ramesh Sepehrrad, and Massoud Kalani welcomed the magnitude in attendance and reiterated their support to the Iranian resistance movement.
The auditorium in Villepinte was a sea of red, white and green as the first speakers took the stage to applause. However, it was a moment remembering the victims of the 1988 massacre that drew the strongest reactions.
