During the month of August, the brutal mullahs in Iran have further clamped down on the people. A number of human rights and civil activists have been handed heavy sentences for their actions. The regime is clearly fearful about its future, as evidenced by the treatment of free speakers, journalists, workers and activists.

Last month alone, more than 20 activists, journalists and workers were sentenced to prison time and lashes for participating in demonstrations.

Researcher Atefeh Rangiz was arrested in May and sentenced to 11 and a half years and 74 lashes. Bus driver and syndicate member Rasoul Taleb Moghadam was sentenced to two years imprisonment, two years of exile, a two-year ban on using a smartphone and 74 lashes. And these are just a few of a many similar sentences that were handed out.

On August 30, in the Khorambid town in the southern Fars province, Iran, the police brutally arrested and beat a young man, Javad Khosravanian, in public, then they transferred him to the police station.

Three citizens were sentenced to 18 years in prison in Urmia, Ashnoyeh and Sanandaj, Hrana News Agency reported on September 8, 2019.

Hamid Balkhanloo

Hamid Balkhaklanlu was sentenced to one year in prison by the Urmia Revolutionary Court for supporting the opposition.

Ghafour Borham

Another report from the city of Urmia states an 11-year prison sentence was imposed in the first branch of the Urmia Court of Appeal on Ghafour Borham, a resident of the Amirabad village of Ashnoyeh County.

According to Iran Human Rights Monitor (IRAN HRM), since January 2019, 176 people have been executed in Iran. The highest number of execution have been in July and August.

The regime has stepped up executions, including of women. There have been reports on human rights activists who got imprisoned or brutalized in prison during the month of July.
