At Brussels Protest, Maryam Rajavi Urges EU to Sanction Iran's Regime

On Saturday, June 15, 2019, thousands of Iranians gathered for a large protest demonstration in Brussels. They were protesting the brutal violation of human rights by the Iranian regime as well as the regime’s instigation of terrorism and warmongering in the region.

The crowd voiced their support for the Iranian Resistance movement led by Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, the President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) along with the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) and the MEK’s resistance units inside the country.

Prominent human rights lawyer and women’s rights defender Nasrin Sotoudeh dedicated her life to peacefully pursuing human rights — including opposition to the discriminatory forced veiling laws, as well as the death penalty.

She was arrested at her home, on charges in connection with her human rights work, on June 13th 2018. Previously, in September 2016, Nasrin Sotoudeh had been sentenced to five years’ imprisonment in a separate case also linked to her human rights work.

Whenever Iran announces a new anti-aircraft missile system, questions arise, such as, is it new, or a knockoff?

At the unveiling ceremony of a new surface-to-air missile, the Khordad 15, Iran’s Defense Minister, Brigadier General Amir Hatami, said that the system is “capable of detecting fighter jets and combat drones from 150 kilometers [93 miles] away and of tracking them within a range of 120 kilometers [75 miles].” The Defense Minister quoted Iranian state media and added, “The system can also detect stealth targets at a distance of 85 kilometers [53 miles] and engage and destroy them within a range of 45 kilometers [28 miles].”

A crucial step toward preventing the Iranian regime any more the Iranian people’s meager resources, new sanctions were issued on the biggest petrochemical holding of the Iranian regime for its financial support of the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC).

However, more needs to be done, according to Mohammad Mohaddessin, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) In an interview with Ilaf news website. He declared that the next step should be to sanction the Iranian regime’s natural gas exports. “Further sanctions on gas exports will cut off the regime from Iran’s natural resources and ensure that these assets will be used to rebuild the country after the mullahs are overthrown,” Mohaddessin told Ilaf reporters.

The US has sanctioned Iran’s largest petrochemical holding group for supporting the Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in an attempt to halt the money flow for the Iranian military unit that is designated as a terrorist group by the US.

The sanctions against the Persian Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company (PGPIC), issued on Friday, come as the US is trying to increase economic and military pressure against Iran because of its support for proxy groups across the Middle East and its nuclear and missile programs.
