Will President Trump Follow Through on Iran Promises?

Last week, President Trump’s National Security Advisor, Michael Flynn, announced that there would be new financial sanctions imposed on individuals and entities following Iran’s test-firing of a ballistic missile. Flynn mentioned that the test-firing was a violation of UN resolutions and added that Iran has transgressed in many other ways – attacking vessels in international waters, funding terrorism around the Middle East and further, and so on.

White House Reiterates Its Position on Iran

The Supreme Leader of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has publicly spoken for the first time since the inauguration of US President Trump. He dismissed the “on notice” decision by the US following the test-firing of a ballistic missile. 

On 3rd February, Trump posted a message to Iran on Twitter: “Iran is playing with fire – they don’t appreciate how “kind” President Obama was to them. Not me!”

Iran Conducts Further Missile Tests

Just days after being put “on notice” by the White House for conducting a ballistic missile test, Iran has fired off five advanced surface-to-air missiles in a military exercise.

The Hunter missiles were successfully launched from Dasht-e Kavir, a remote desert area in the middle of Iran, on Sunday.  That type of missile in used to down aircraft and incoming missiles.

Mike Pence: Iran Must ‘Think Twice’ Before Testing Trump Administration

 Vice President Mike Pence has warned the Iranian Regime to think twice about testing Donald Trump’s patience in an interview on ABC with George Stephanopoulos.

His warning came just days after the Trump administration imposed new sanctions on Iran.

Pence said: “Iran would do well not to test the resolve of this new president. [They should] think twice about their continued hostile and belligerent actions.”

Matthis: Iran Is Biggest State Sponsor of Terrorism

As tensions rise between the USA and Iran, US Defence Secretary James Mattis has called the Iranian Regime the “biggest state sponsor of terrorism” in the world.

He told reporters in Japan: “We have seen their [Iran’s] misconduct, their misbehaviour, from Lebanon and Syria to Bahrain and to Yemen and it’s got to be addressed at some point.”

U.S. Announces New Sanctions, for 13 Individuals and 12 Entities, Including Iran

On February 3, 2017 article  in Yahoo News stated that The United States sanctioned 13 individuals and 12 entities on Friday.  This occurred just days after the White House put Iran “on notice” over a ballistic missile test and other activities.  These sanctions were written so as not to violate the Nuclear Deal with the country. The White House declined comment.

Iran Ramping up Dangers at Sea, US Navy Commander Says

On February 2, Fox News’ Lucas Tomlinson reported that US Navy Commander Mark Davis, the commanding officer of the USS Mahan, the American destroyer that recently fired warning shots, said that the number of “unsafe and unprofessional” interactions jumped from 23 in 2015 to 35 last year, a troubling upswing.

“We tend to abide by the international rules of the sea and also the international norms and laws. And part of that is: if you’re closing a vessel that you’re supposed to, you know, establish communication, let them know what your intentions are and then you come to an agreement as to how you’re going to pass so that it’s not unsafe and does not make people nervous,” Davis told The Associated Press.
