The people of Iran want regime change. They have suffered under the rule of the mullahs for almost four decades. For them to obtain their dream of freedom, it is essential that they are supported and have the backing of the international community.

The people of Iran are out in the streets protesting and participating in anti-government demonstrations because they are fed up of the suppression that they have to endure every day.
Although we know that there have been dozens of deaths and hundreds of arrests, we in the West have been kept somewhat in the dark. The Iranian regime said several days ago that the protests had died down, but leaked reports from inside the country show us otherwise. It is very likely that many more people have died.

The protests that began in late December in the holy city of Mashhad spread quickly across the country, and involved more than 80 cities. They have accumulated a total death-toll of 21, and hundreds of arrests. In fact, more than 500 people were arrested in the capital city of Tehran alone, and local media says that more than 1,000 were detained throughout the country. The average age of those arrested is under 25, Deputy Interior Minister, Hossein Zolfaghari, said.

Iran’s state-run media reported on Monday, that 22-year-old Sina Ghanbari, arrested during the recent anti-government protests in Iran, has died in police custody. Ghanbari was being held in Tehran’s notorious Evin Prison after security forces detained him and hundreds of other protesters, most of whom were young Iranians.

The Trump administration’s intelligence chief, CIA director Mike Pompeo, told Fox News on Sunday, “It’s my expectation these protests are not behind us,” said Pompeo.
While he believes that the world has not seen the last of the anti-regime protests that have swept Iran in recent weeks, Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) declared over the past weekend that the protests have been “defeated.”

The people of Iran are angry. They are calling for the overthrow of their regime and are desperate for great change. They are taking command of their future and are adamant that they will not continue to tolerate the medieval regime that is ruining the lives of millions and denying them of the most basic of human rights.

There have been more than twenty deaths as a result of the protesting that is taking place across Iran. The country is verging on a major uprising. However, it is difficult to understand the real situation via the media because Iran’s regime is exercising tight control over it. But it is plain to see from leaked images and videos that that they are of the same intensity as the 2009 protests that rocked the country and almost toppled the regime.

Protests and demonstrations have been taking place in Iran for more than a week now. There are reports about numerous people being injured and arrested and there have been at least thirty people killed. The Supreme Leader of the country, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, is saying that the “enemies” of Iran are to blame for the uprising in his country.

The protests in Iran escalated on Monday, with demonstrators ignoring President Hassan Rouhani’s orders to stop and instead attacking the offices for the Basij, a brutal security force that routinely attacks the Iranian people.
The protests- already the most widespread and populous in more than a decade- consists of tens of thousands of people across the country from Tehran, Tabriz, Ardabil, Karaj, Abadan and Ahwaz, despite the strict security measures designed to stop more protests and more protesters.
