Zambia concerned at Iran regime’s attempts to “spread sectarianism in Africa”

The National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) has reported that the President of Zambia, Edgar Lungu, is worried about the Iranian regime spreading sectarian ideology in Africa.

In an article published on The Hill’s website, Shahriar Kia describes how Iran is getting more and more involved in the war in Syria. The Revolutionary Guards now have over 60,000 troops on the ground – 8,000 of which are agents of the Quds Force, as well as thousands of mercenaries from Afghanistan, Iraq, Lebanon and Pakistan. He said the “Green Berets”, the 65th Nohed Brigade, has also been dispatched – a strong indication of the desperate measures the Iranian regime is taking in preventing Assad’s downfall as this is their first mission in more than two decades.

Home of Sunni cleric is raided by Iranian agents near border

It has been reported that the repressive agents of the Iranian regime, on Tuesday 17th May 2016, have raided the home of Mulavi Ghasem Ghanbarzehi, a Sunni cleric. He was then arrested in the centre of Daman village. Daman village is located about 25 kilometers Iranshahr town in the Sistan and Baluchestan province, south-east Iran.

Taliban leader with possible links to Iran killed in US drone attack

Pakistan has hinted that a Taliban leader has links to Iran. At the site of a US drone attack that was targeting Afghan Taliban leader Mullah Akhtar Mansour, a passport was found belonging to a Pakistani man named Wali Muhammad according to an article on Newsweek. The Pakistani Foreign Ministry said on Sunday 22nd May that the passport showed evidence of a valid Iranian visa.

80 percent of Iran affected by drought

Over three quarters of Iran is expected to face drought according to the regime’s officials and state media. This is despite the heavy rainfall being experienced in several areas of the country.

The head of the National Drought Warning and Monitoring Center at the Iran Meteorological Organization (IRIMO), Shahrokh Fateh, told the state-run ISNA news agency on 6th May that short term rainfalls will have no change on the state of underground water.

Street vendors harassed in Ahwaz, Iran

The National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), privy to reports from inside Iran, have reported that street vendors in Ahwaz, southwestern Iran, have been “subject to harassment by municipal agents” during the past couple of weeks.

Municipal agents surrounded the street vendors market in Naderi Street in Ahwaz on 16th May. They prevented people from entering the market, meaning that the vendors could not trade.

Health of political prisoner Jafar Azimzadeh is deteriorating due to hunger strike

Political prisoner Jafar Azimzadeh’s health is deteriorating. The workers’ rights activist has been on an indefinite hunger strike in Tehran’s notorious Evin Prison for nearly three weeks now and the regime is putting pressure on him to end it.

On Tuesday 17th May, the Tehran prosecutor’s office “demanded that he end his hunger strike” according to a report by the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI). He had to be transported by car to the visitor’s hall to see his wife on Tuesday due to being too frail.

Resolution providing for security of Iranian MEK members in Camp Liberty in Iraq is voted

The U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Foreign Affairs unanimously approved a resolution on “Providing for the safety and security of the Iranian dissidents living in Camp Liberty/Hurriya in Iraq and awaiting resettlement by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, and permitting use of their own assets to assist in their resettlement”.

European Iraqi Freedom Association’s statement: Iranian regime needs to be evicted from Iraq

In a statement released by the European Iraqi Freedom Association today, calls are made for “real and comprehensive reforms”, the absence of which will ensure that Iraq will “lurch towards catastrophe”.
