Lord Alton of Liverpool, a Crossbench peer, has claimed that activists in Iran are still in “extreme danger” but acknowledges that they will not be defeated by the violence they are confronted with by the government.

In the article published on 1st June he said that a representative of the Iranian cybercrimes police used state media to boast about how the regime has been able to disrupt peaceful networks on Instagram and other social media. Western media picked up on this and took interest in the cultural battleground “where secular, pro-democratic ideas are aggressively battled by the Iranian regime”.

Eighteen charged in Bahrain for contacting Iran’s Revolutionary Guards and Hezbollah

Eighteen people have been charged in Bahrain with contacting Iran’s Revolutionary Guard and the Shi’ite Muslim Lebanese Hezbollah group “with the aim of stirring up unrest in the kingdom”, as reported by state news agency BNA on Wednesday.

Reuters have published an article with the news and remind that in January Bahrain cut diplomatic relations with Iran. This came the day after Riyadh severed ties with Tehran “following attacks by Iranian demonstrators on Saudi diplomatic missions in response to the execution of a prominent Shi’ite Muslim Saudi cleric convicted on terrorism charges”.

Iranians rally in Sweden and Finland to denounce Javad Zarif’s presence

The United Nations have published a report in which they outline their position on the recent floggings that have taken place in Iran.

This comes a week after 35 young men and women in Iran were flogged after holding a graduation party in Qazvin, north of Tehran.

Bahrain upholds sentences for five spies with links to the Iranian regime

In Bahrain an appeals court has upheld the sentences for five men accused of spying for the Iranian regime. The prosecution released a statement on Sunday 29th May confirming that their life sentences will be upheld and the court has rejected the five defendants’ appeals.
