On January 9, 2022, reports from Iran’s notorious Evin Prison conveyed political inmates’ solidarity with Iranian poet and filmmaker Baktash Abtin, who died in hospital due to the regime’s obstruction and purposeful delays in granting him healthcare. Political detainees from Evin Prison congregated in front of Hall 8 and the prison yard, yelling “death to Khamenei” and “death to the oppressor.”
While protests continue in various parts of Iran, the Resistance Units, a network of MEK members within Iran, have continued their activities, demanding for the mullahs’ rule to be overthrown.
In a statement, the Secretariat of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) quoted the People’s Mujahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) as saying that 497,100 people had died as a result of the Covid-19 outbreak in Iran as of January 12.
On Tuesday, the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council published a joint statement highlighting their shared commitment to nuclear non-proliferation and emphasizing the importance of avoiding nuclear confrontations at all costs.

Authorities in Shahrekord, Charmahal, and Bakhtiari Provinces presented a giant statue of Qassem Soleimani, the terrorist Quds Force’s eliminated commander, on Wednesday, January 5.
The statue was intended to honor the regime’s terror master, who was killed in a drone assault in January 2020 and took a year to build at a significant expense to the Iranian people. The statue was unveiled with a dramatic ceremony in the presence of religious regime officials, with subsequent celebrations planned for the square where the statue was unveiled.
Many villages in Iran have been depopulated as a result of the Iranian government’s damaging policies, and villagers’ movement from rural to urban regions has grown in recent years. According to the latest numbers from Iran’s Statistics Center, there are 45,000 empty villages in the country, with only 25% of the people living in rural areas.
On January 2, the British Committee for Iran Freedom, which includes dozens of well-known British politicians, released a statement condemning the Iranian regime’s artillery attacks on residential areas in southeastern Sistan and Baluchistan Province. This attack, as well as the “killing of civilians, women, and children,” was classified as a “war crime of the religious dictatorship” in the statement.
