On the morning of Friday 8th November, a magnitude 5.9 earthquake struck the north-western provinces of Iran. The latest reports indicate that there are eight dead and tens of thousands of injured people.

Among those affected are many children who have been suffering in the very cold conditions of this harsh winter.

During a crisis management session, Youssef Davoudi, a representative of the city of Sarab, told the country’s parliament that there are many children suffering from frostbite. He also said that many of the people are suffering from illness and that there is a desperate need for more doctors and health professionals. Davoudi said that “at least seven to eight teams of general practitioners are needed to look after them”.

The Iranian regime has been behind a major misinformation campaign that has the aim of discrediting the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI), or Mujahedin-e Khalq (MEK), as it is also known. The regime has used publications around the world to spread lies, untruths and misinformation and to rehash allegations that were addressed a long time ago.

This should not be so much of a concern considering that publications these days exercise the appropriate due diligence and research subjects that they write about – especially when the subject is as sensitive as the political situation in Iran.

Death of Iranian Ethnic Arab Poet Sparks Protests in Ahvaz

Hassan Heydari, a 29-year-old Iranian popular dissident poet, died last week under suspicious circumstances in Ahvaz’s Shafa Hospital, prompting anti-regime protests in Ahvaz and several other cities.
Ahvaz has a substantial Arab community. Due to the regime’s brutality in suppressing ethnic minorities, there have been intermittent tensions between residents and the government.

Hassan Heydari, a 29-year-old Iranian popular dissident poet, died last week under suspicious circumstances in Ahvaz’s Shafa Hospital, prompting anti-regime protests in Ahvaz and several other cities.

Heydari’s death came a month after he was arrested by the Iranian regime’s authorities.

His death, which locals believe was due to poisoning by the Intelligence Ministry, triggered a series of protests in the southwestern Iranian province of Khuzestan.

Gorokh Ebrahimi Iraee, an Iranian civil rights activist was arrested at her home on Saturday November 9, 2019. She is the wife of political prisoner Arash Sadeghi who suffers from cancer in Prison and was campaigning on Twitter for Arash’s release and access to medical aid.

On June 18, 2019 the regime’s Tehran Revolutionary Court examined a new case filed against Golrokh Ebrahimi Iraee and Atena Daemi for protesting against the executions of three Kurdish dissidents. Security agents raided Golrokh Iraee’s house and took her into custody.

On Wednesday, November 6th, Amnesty International called on the international community to publicly condemn the Iranian regime for the deterioration of human rights in the country. The organization said that the review session at the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva on Friday 8th November is the perfect opportunity for the condemnations to be voiced.

Philip Luther, Amnesty International’s Research and Advocacy Director for the Middle East and North Africa, described the opportunity as “crucial”, emphasizing that the international community must “send a strong and clear message to the Iranian authorities that its shocking disregard for human rights will not be tolerated”.

A concerted effort of fake-news, biased press articles, and over-activation of agents missioned with the Iranian Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS) were published to make a mountain out of a molehill.

The Iraqi people continue protesting against the Iranian regime’s presence in Iraq and yearning for freedom and democracy. In response, the Iranian regime has resorted to more violence. in this regard in an update on its statement over the situation in Iraq, Amnesty International revealed that “a significant portion of the deadly projectiles” causing gruesome protester deaths “are in fact M651 tear gas grenades and M713 smoke grenades manufactured by the Defense Industries Organization (DIO) of Iran.”
