According to activists in Iranian opposition groups, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has opened fire on protesters attempting to save their property from further flood damage.
In a predawn confrontation on Wednesday in Khuzestan province, activists report that Iranian Arab residents of the area, a minority also known as Ahwazis, were trying to stop the IRGC from diverting floodwaters onto their farmland. One protester was killed by the IRGC.

No International Relief Offered to Iran’s Flood Victims

Remarkably, European countries and the US, who usually volunteer relief efforts in natural disasters, have sent messages of sympathy, but no relief efforts have been offered to Iran.

In northern Iran, near the Caspian Sea, lies the city of Aq Qala whose population is more than 35,000. It was one of the worst flood-stricken areas in the country. To date, no tangible help has reached the residents of Aq Qala city.
During the past few days, regime officials have made promises regarding compensation for losses and for preventing further damage from the flood. Even those with no insurance for their cars, agriculture, or livestock are promised compensation.

Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei’s appointment of known human rights abuser Ebrahim Raisi to the head of the Iranian judiciary only spells dark times ahead for human and civil rights defenders, according to Iranian attorney Abdolkarim Lahiji.
Khamenei appointed Raisi because of his commitment to Islamic Justice, which Lahiji says is code for the human rights abuses that have been common in the Regime since day one.
Persian New Year Sees Devastating Floods Throughout Iran

On Sunday, March 17th, rain began to pour across the northern cities of Iran. Cities and villages in provinces such as Golestan, Mazandaran, Northern Khorasan and Semnan flooded, as the consequences of the Iranian regime’s inadequate policies regarding natural disasters became apparent.
Lives and belongings were lost in the floods at the beginning of the Persian New Year. Those left homeless numbered in the tens of thousands. Financial losses are devastating in these provinces, and thousands of people are without shelter.
Iran: Regime’s Gross Negligence Following Devastating Floods

After several days of heavy rain and violent storms, the consequential flooding has been devastating for the people of Iran. There have been a large number of people killed and even more injured. Many have lost their homes, their belongings and their livelihoods.
The floods came in the midst of the Nowruz – or Persian New Year – celebrations; a time that should have been full of hope for the people. However, instead, the year started off catastrophically because the Iranian regime did not step in to provide the help that was needed. Before the floods hit certain areas, the people tried their hardest, in vein, to stop the potential flooding from affecting them.
Many of Iran’s Minorities ‘Celebrated’ the New Year in Prison

The Persian year of 1397 corresponds to 2018-2019 in the Gregorian calendar. Its final month was eventful for Baha’i prisoners in Iran. On a positive note, seventeen prisoners were released on the anniversary of the Islamic Revolution, February 11th. However, trials, indictments, arrests and searches of their homes continued to plague Baha’i citizens throughout Iran.
For instance, on March 11th, it was reported that security agents in Tehran arrested two Baha’i brothers — Hamid Nasseri and Saeed Nasseri. Hamid was arrested on the street in front of his business, and when Saeed went to the Evin detention center to inquire about his brother, he was also arrested. Saeed’s wife, Afsaneh Emami (Nasseri), had been arrested 40 days previously but was released on bail at the end of the year. Saeed and Hamid Nasseri remain in detention.
