On Thursday, the Israel Air Force bombed several Iran-related military targets in Aleppo, Syria, killing between seven and 25 members of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps’ Quds Force.

The bombs struck a military airport used by the Iranian axis and several ammunition depots, as well as the Fajr-5C workshop in the Sheikh Najjar industrial zone northeast of Aleppo. They caused an electricity blackout in Aleppo. The Syrian Regime, led by Dictator Bashar Assad who is backed by Iran in this eight-year-long civil war, claimed that they had shot down the missiles, but this was not true.

Facebook recently announced the removal of a significant number of pages, groups, and accounts engaged in what they called “coordinated inauthentic behavior.” Most of the activity seemed to come from fake accounts linked to Iran, whose propaganda was related to Syria, Yemen, and Palestine. According to Facebook, networks linked to Iran were responsible for “513 pages, groups, and accounts,” operating in “Egypt, India, Indonesia, Israel, Italy, Kashmir, Kazakhstan [and] broadly across the Middle East and North Africa.”

Facebook’s head of cybersecurity said in a blog post on Twitter, “the pages routinely amplified Iranian state narratives, targeting Israel, the United States, and Saudi Arabia, especially for their roles in the Middle East, and focusing on the Yemen and Palestine conflicts… The pages often shared articles from websites which reproduced, verbatim, content from Iranian state or state-allied outlets, such as Press TV.”

Iran has been under great pressure from the US ever since Donald Trump became president, but the pressure increased dramatically after the US pulled out of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), commonly known as the nuclear deal, last May and reinstated sanctions over the following six months. However, that was not the only problem faced by the Regime.

Iran has drawn severe and warranted criticism from the other countries of the Middle East who rightly fear that the Regime is trying to turn the region into a Mini-Persian Empire with a land bridge stretching from the Persian Gulf to the Mediterranean through Iraq, Syria, Yemen, and Lebanon. This has caused Saudi Arabia and Yemen to seek out the US’s help in countering the Regime.

Iran regime’s leader, Ali Khamenei, recently discussed his concerns about the “enemy”. He believes that this “enemy” will attempt to deliver a severe blow to his government, and possible plots to overthrow the regime in 2019. Senior regime insiders have also expressed similar concerns, especially in Friday prayer sessions. Friday prayer imams are considered Khamenei’s representatives and have actual command over local affairs.

Last Friday, this became evident at the first Friday prayer session of the new Iranian calendar year after Nowruz. The Friday prayer imam of Urmia, Ali Akbar Ghoreishi, of northwest Iran, used the term “50 incidents” to describe measures that have sought to overthrow the regime during the past 40 years.

On March 7th, Ebrahim Raissi was officially appointed to head the judiciary of the regime by the Iranian Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei.

Raissi is notorious among Iranians for his part in the Massacre of 1988, when some 30,000 political prisoners were executed. In fact, during the last presidential elections in 2017, popular reactions to his candidacy were so intense that Khamenei failed to implement what he calls “electoral genius” to bring his favorite to the head of the judiciary.

Iranian women have begun filming the violence they face on a day-to-day basis, and sharing the videos on social media. The perpetrators of attacks like those shared on social media, are pro-government vigilantes or plain-clothes morality police who confront and attack women for defying Iran’s hijab laws in the name of defending “public decency”. They appear to be getting bolder in their assaults.
