Iran-backed Houthis launch another missile attack

Earlier today, the Saudi Arabian air defence forces intercepted a ballistic missile fired by the Iran-backed Houthi militia in Yemen, according to the Saudi state news agency SPA.
The missile, which was believed to be targeting Jazan, was broken apart in the air and no one is believed to be hurt.

While European leaders may have campaigned to save the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), commonly known as the Iran nuclear deal, US President Trump had his mind made up to withdraw from it. No matter what your views on the US abandonment of the agreement, most agree that Iran supports terrorism, and that it is a threat to not only the region, but also on a global scale.

On Wednesday, in the southern Iranian city of Kazerun, according to a Fox News report a protest turned deadly. Security forces allegedly opened fire on a protest against a plan to divide the city into two sections. At least two protesters are said to have been killed, and several injured. As well, many were arrested.

With the US exit from the Iran nuclear deal, a series of measures against Tehran has begun. Sanctions are imminent, and continuing to do business with Iran will be a huge risk.

Europe should not embolden the Iranian Regime

It should not be the case that, in the 21st century, a country has to use sirens to encourage its citizens to take cover in the event of a ballistic missile attack from a neighbouring state. It feels like this should have been left behind in the Blitz, but this is the very real danger that Saudi Arabia and its citizens are facing from the Iran-backed Houthis in Yemen.
