The New U.S. Policy Against Iran Regime in Action

Since Donald Trump has announced the new US strategy for Iran, the tune of the US government has clearly changed in the Middle East.

With the defeat of Daesh (ISIS) in Syria and Iraq, the fingertips of the Iranian regime and the influence of this regime have become a target for the United States. This has been reflected on the Iraqi scene and in decision-making centers in Baghdad. The US says that after the end of the war against Daesh, the United States will remain in the region to fight against the elements of the Iranian regime.

Links Between Iran Regime and Al-Qaeda

Iran has been particularly persistent in its fuelling of the Shiite Sunni war in the Middle East, so it seems odd to hear that there are links between Iran and al-Qaeda. However, the Shiite Iranian regime, which has persecuted much of the Sunni population in Iran, has a deep hatred of the United States, and so does Sunni group al-Qaeda.

On the aftermath of protest rallies and demonstrations which occurred during the commemoration of the ‘Cyrus the Great Day’ in Iran. The state-run ‘ Alef’ website published an article concerning the reaction of Iranian people to anti-Iranian statements and insults to Cyrus by Iranian regime’s officials titled “Today, Cyrus, tomorrow perhaps Hafez and Sa’adi (two of the greatest poets of Iran)”: “How long do we want to continue this fake policy and satisfy ourselves with the false hope that this year is over, let’s hope for next year,! What has been the result of these policies so far, except for causing more sensitivity and a worse reaction by the people?

Last year on October28th, thousands of Iranians went to Pasargadae to pay tribute to Cyrus the Great and many ended up protesting against the Iranian regime. Security forces were deployed and several people were arrested. The crowd chanted: “Iran is our homeland; Cyrus is our father”, “Freedom of thought cannot take place with beards” in reference to the current leaders of the country, and “Clerical rule is synonymous with only tyranny, only war”.

Ahmadreza Jalali, a Swedish-Iranian scholar has been sentenced to death in Iran. Swedish authorities and Amnesty International are protesting the sentence.

Jalali who has Iranian citizenship, but is a permanent resident of Sweden, is a researcher at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm.
